Iraq loses academics

The targeting of academics in Iraq has led to fears of future shortages of professionals such as doctors and engineers in the country, with up to 182 Iraqi university professors and academics having been killed in violence since the US-led invasion in 2003, reported Reuters. Another 85 senior academics have been kidnapped or suffered attempts on their lives, the Association of University Lecturers in Iraq told a news conference last week.
