Fujitsu Siemens Computers claims top spot in growing tablet PC market

  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, March 16 - 2006 at 09:01
  • PRESS RELEASE

Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Europe's leading I.T. manufacturer, sold more tablet PCs and convertibles in Europe, the Middle East and Africa than any other manufacturer in 2005.

The company posted sales of almost 40,000 tablet PCs and convertibles last year - 15,000 more than in 2004. This amounted to a 60 percent year-on-year growth, considerably higher than the average market growth of eight percent, securing Fujitsu Siemens Computers a 25 percent market share - enough to claim top spot in this market segment.*

The European I.T. giant upped the pace in the fourth quarter of 2005, when it again outperformed the competition with 74 percent growth resulting in a 27 percent market share. The company was number one in sales with slates - 51 percent market share - as well as convertibles - 30 percent - a segment in which its unit sales rose by a remarkable 178 percent.

"These figures show that we are the undisputed frontrunner in the market for pen-based tablet PCs and convertibles," said Stephane Rejasse, Fujitsu Siemens Computers' General Manager for the Middle East.

"With more than 20 years experience in this field and a large base of satisfied customers, we now have our sights on developing products and solutions that are even more customer-friendly, flexible and lightweight."

The company's sales have been buoyed by a number of recent high profile launches, including the world's lightest, convertible notebook, the LIFEBOOK P1510, the company's top-selling model, the LIFEBOOK T4010, and the innovative STYLISTIC ST503x series.

At only one kilogram in weight, the LIFEBOOK P1510 Convertible's full notebook and tablet PC functionality make it the ideal mobile companion for business trips, field staff and vertical markets such as healthcare or insurance. It features a top-quality 8.9-inch screen and battery life that can be upgraded to allow up to eight-and-a-half hours of operation. Passive digitizer technology means any stylus can be used to operate the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. Also, an integrated fingerprint sensor provides additional security and convenience.

The LIFEBOOK T Convertible series combines the versatility of LIFEBOOK notebooks with the functionality of STYLISTIC tablet PCs. Simply turn and fold the screen, and the LIFEBOOK T transforms from a conventional notebook into a user-friendly tablet PC. The LIFEBOOK T comes with a 12.1-inch wide-angle TFT display with anti-reflective coating for unrestricted indoor and outdoor use.

The STYLISTIC ST503x series is specially designed for working on one's feet. These devices are light, thin and robust, with a brilliant display that enables user-friendly operation both in and out of the office. Connectivity via the WiFi-certified 802.11 b/g standard, IrDA, Bluetooth and Intel® Centrino mobile technology delivers the flexibility to work without interruption for up to nine hours.

In addition, the STYLISTIC ST5032 features a brilliant 12.1-inch display with the addition of the anti-reflective coating. An integrated fingerprint sensor and trusted platform module (TPM) provide maximum security. The STYLISTIC ST5031, meanwhile, is optimized for outdoor usage, featuring a special anti-reflective 10.4-inch screen with frontlight that enables work or play even in direct sunlight.
