Established in 1981, Al Noor looks after 220 children with special needs of 19 different nationalities. The centre supports children with challenges such as Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Autism and uses a number of special teaching methods to help them to lead a normal day to day life.

The centre's operational expenses are covered only partly by school fees, and it is mainly funded by fundraising projects, and the generosity of the community. Though many individuals and corporations support Al Noor, there is no source of official or regular funding. The centre relies on fundraising activity to source more than two-thirds of its operational expenses.
