DCCI receives South African delegation

Abdul Rahman G. Al Mutaiwee Director General of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) received a delegation from Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), headed by Keith Brebnor the CEO of JCCI and a number of businessmen and managers of South African companies.

Al Mutaiwee welcomed the delegation; he expressed DCCI's interest in activating and enhancing the relationship between business communities on both sides.

He said, "We are interested in boosting our relations with South Africa as an important trade partner due to its remarkable development in different manufacturing aspects. We are maintaining an excellent business relation, and we are looking forward towards creating a long lasting strategic partnership between the business communities in the UAE and South Africa."

Keith Brebnor explained their interest in benefiting from Dubai. He said that Johannesburg is considered as major business and financial hub in South Africa, the GDP is expected to reach 5% this year. Brebnor explained the economy's situation is expected to improve after the decrease in the unemployment rates.

Sultan Majed Lootah the acting director of business promotion, Ms Shakira Motan the Consul Economic in the South African Consulate General and Ms Nada Reyneke head of International Trade in JCCI, also attended the meeting.

DCCI statistics shows that Dubai's foreign non-oil trade with South Africa in the year 2004 was about AED 1.702 billion ($ 463 million), comparing to 304 million AED in 2000 ($ 82 million).
