This meeting, which brings together all Arab telecommunications regulators for the first time, addresses many issues like new trends and the challenges to the telecom sector, and also reviews state-of-the-art services like VOIP and Wi-max technology. In addition, the meeting allows the audience to share their experiences and assess the strategies adopted by each country to regulate the telecommunications sector. UAE's TRA is chairing this meeting, following its taking over the Presidency of the Network.
Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of UAE's TRA, welcomed Etisalat's initiative to sponsor this meeting and said,
'Etisalat has been actively involved in telecom and IT events and conferences in the UAE and abroad, and lend support by sponsoring these events as well as showcasing the latest telecom services.'
Nasser Bin Obood, Deputy CEO of Etisalat, who attended the opening of the meeting said, 'Etisalat is keen to play an active role in the telecom and IT sector in the region, especially after our success in expanding operations and investments to countries like Saudi Arabia through Mobily, Canar in Sudan, Qatar's Qtel, PTCL in Pakistan, ZanTel in Zanzibar, and Atlantique Telecom in seven African countries. The Corporation is also actively evaluating new markets and opportunities in Asia, Africa and Europe.'
'We consider telecom regulators as the key authorities in setting frameworks and regulatory policies required to promote the telecom sector, which will bring benefits for both telecom operators and customers. The Annual Meeting of Arab ICT Regulators Network helps participants discuss and exchange experiences, and boost the telecom sector by adopting best-of-breed technologies and solutions for different challenges', he added.
Etisalat has participated in many telecom and IT events and conferences, such as World Summit on Information Society, Tunisia, ICT Cairo 2006, Connect, Telecoms World ME, GCC e-Commerce, and many others.
