MasterCard will deliver a conference opening keynote address on card innovation in the Middle East and how payment solutions must evolve to meet consumer needs. It will also run a full day workshop for delegates on next generation payment solutions and overcoming challenges facing the industry. In addition, MasterCard spokespeople will take part in panel discussions during the two-day event.
"MasterCard sees Cards Middle East 2006 as a critical event for ensuring the industry meets business and lifestyle needs of consumers over the next decade. The cards payment industry is changing rapidly in the Middle East and has experienced strong growth as a raft of new card based payment solutions have been introduced and made widely available.'
"Many new segments of consumers across the Middle East are realizing the benefits of using credit and debit cards. Technology is expanding the scope of the services that payment solution leaders like MasterCard can offer and we need to ensure that the industry is doing all it can to work with financial institutions to provide and explain these benefits," said Denzil Lawson, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Middle East & North Africa, MasterCard International.
Mr Lawson said that in 2005 MasterCard cardholders across the Asia/Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMEA) region used over 162.8 million MasterCard-branded cards (up 13 per cent) for more than 2.5 billion transactions (up 15.9 per cent), generating a gross dollar volume of US$283.5 billion, an increase of 9.7 percent over 2004.
"The results for 2005 display the continued momentum that our brand is gaining across the region and the growing appetite for innovative card-based and electronic payment solutions," he added.
