Qatar Financial Centre Authority announces senior appointment

The Qatar Financial Centre Authority has announced the appointment of Fetooh Al Zayani as Managing Director Business Development (Insurance and Re-Insurance).
Fetooh Al Zayani's career spans 25 years of marketing, underwriting and management in the regional and international insurance and re-insurance industry. She is widely recognized as one of the most prominent regional personalities in the insurance and reinsurance market.
Mrs Al Zayani's appointment comes as the region is undergoing a significant economic transformation, which will have a fundamental impact on insurance demand. She will spearhead the QFC Authority's work with national, regional and international insurance institutions in raising awareness of the Middle East's rapidly changing risk environment. In addition she will seek to assist in raising the profile and standards of the insurance industry in the region.

Prior to joining the Qatar Financial Centre, Fetooh Al Zayani was Head of Insurance and Reinsurance - Business Development at the Dubai International Financial Centre. From 1995- 2002 Fetooh headed the Aviation underwriting division of the Arab Insurance Group (ARIG).
Fetooh was responsible for development of the strategy for insurance and reinsurance at the Dubai International Financial Centre, and was instrumental in enabling the DIFC to win the 'Industry Initiative of the Year' Review award for 2005 in its first year of operation.
Graduating in 1980 from the University of East London, Fetooh holds professional insurance qualifications from both London and New York and is a member of a number of internationally renowned insurance associations.
Fetooh Al Zayani is a Bahraini national, and is married with 4 children.
Qatar Financial Centre:
The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) is a financial and business centre established by the Government of Qatar and located in Doha. It has been designed to attract international financial services institutions and major multi-national corporations and to encourage participation in the growing market for financial services in Qatar and elsewhere in the region. The QFC will operate to international standards and provide a first class legal and business infrastructure for those operating within the QFC. The QFC was created by Qatar Law No.(7) and has been open for business since 1 May 2005.
QFC Regulatory Authority:
The QFC Regulatory Authority is an independent regulatory body established by Article 8 of the QFC Law. It regulates firms that conduct financial services in or from the QFC. It has a broad range of regulatory powers to authorize, supervise and, when necessary, discipline firms and individuals. The QFC Regulatory Authority regulates firms using principle-based legislation of international standard, modeled closely on that used in London and other major financial centers. The Regulatory Authority is currently receiving applications and granting authorisations.
QFC Authority:
The QFC Authority is the commercial, administrative and legislative body responsible for driving the commercial strategy of the QFC and for developing relationships with the global corporate community and other key institutions both within and outside of Qatar.
