Three-day DSUD concludes

A students team from Georgia Tech University of the USA put forward a winning proposal for rehabilitating Dubai 's Central Business District which won them first prize in a contest organised as part of the Dubai Forum on Sustainable Urban Development (DSUD), which concluded Monday at Grand Hyatt.

The proposal, drafted after drawing comparisons for the city's CBD development with three US cities i.e. Chicago, Savannah, and Georgia , presented comprehensive solutions to the challenges facing CBDs.

The second place was won by a proposal presented by the students' team of Pavia University, Italy.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the three-day forum helped discuss the issue of rehabilitating Dubai's CBDs from all aspects.

"Participation of experts and specialists in the forum has been of much benefit for the participants to exchange ideas and expertise on sustainable urban development. We will take these ideas and thoughts into consideration while designing the CBD development,"


said Mr. Lootah.

At the concluding ceremony, Mr. Lootah, accompanied by Abdullah AbdulRahim, Director of Planning and Survey Department and Chairman of the DSUD organising committee, distributed prizes and certificates of appreciation to the winning teams, participating experts, universities, and sponsors of the event, who included Emirates Airlines, Emaar, Dubai Investments, Al Rostamani Investments, Dubai Sports City, Tecom, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Zayed University and Dubai Properties. Representatives of the local media were also felicitated.
