Middle East media drive all-new Cadillac BLS ahead of regional introduction in early May

  • PRESS RELEASE

The Middle East media became the first drivers in the world to get behind the wheel of the eagerly awaited, all-new Cadillac BLS at a Ride & Drive event held in Nice in the South of France at the beginning of March.

An entry level luxury sedan, the BLS, which made its regional debut at the Dubai Motor Show in December, provides a critical entry model to the luxury segment for the Cadillac brand and adds another important element to Cadillac global growth.

"Cadillac is enjoying a tremendous surge in popularity which has seen Middle East sales grow by 75% since 2003 and we foresee that the BLS will be a significant factor in further growth," said Chase Hawkins, premium brands director - General Motors Middle East. "With its luxurious combination of bold styling, refined performance and purposeful technology combined with an attractive price tag, starting at SR109, 000, the BLS is the perfect entry level luxury vehicle for potential Cadillac buyers who have not necessarily considered the Cadillac brand before."

A journalist who attended the BLS Ride & Drive event said, "It was a very interesting show, and one that I was proud to attend. The BLS is a fun, stylish car, and I was glad to have had the chance to drive it."

The striking wedge shaped contours of Cadillac BLS further underscores Cadillac's progressive design direction. The most evident feature is the vertical crease line at the front and rear. The V-shaped chrome-plated grille, a Cadillac cue, is picked up again by the trunk lid. The large side faces communicate a sense of strength and solidity.

The BLS also features jewel-like headlamps, fog lamps integrated into the body-coloured bumper and a wide air intake below the grille. A narrow chrome strip runs along the lower edge of the side windows. The latest LED technology is used in the centre high-mounted brake light, which is prominently positioned on the trunk lid and extends across the vehicle. It also functions as a spoiler. The vertical taillights leave no doubt the BLS is a Cadillac.

The BLS interior is highlighted by a three-spoke leather steering wheel and an analogue clock in the centre stack. The circular instruments have white numerals and red needles on a black background.

The state-of-the-art infotainment systems include high-quality audio units from American hi-fi specialist Bose, among others, a DVD navigation system with touch-screen operation, a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone system with a hands free kit, and remote controls on the steering wheel.

The Cadillac BLS will be available in the region with a choice of three gasoline engines - all turbo-charged. The range includes two 2.0 litre four-cylinder versions (175/210 hp) and a high-tech 2.8 litre six-cylinder unit at 255 horsepower with twin-scroll turbocharger. The BLS offers five- or six-speed manual transmissions and five- or six-speed automatic transmissions, depending on engine type.

The chassis, which has McPherson struts in front and a four-link rear axle, is designed for the powerful engines and the high demands of a premium vehicle. The chassis tuning ensures dynamic handling performance without compromising comfort.

The Middle East start of sales is planned for May 2006.
