CEO Osman Sultan said it was important to ensure du became part of the landscape. We want people to know that they now have a choice of their telecommunications company but more importantly we want people to understand what du is all about.

"Customer needs are the focus of all of du's services. They are the heart of what du provides and we want people to know that. We will be relying on OMD to help get that message out in innovative ways to as many people as possible, particularly in the lead up to the launch of du's services later in the year," he said.

du will begin operating mobile phone services throughout the UAE in the second half of 2006 and will roll out fixed line, internet and pay-TV services in phases.

Elie Khouri, regional managing director of OmnicomMediaGroup, the holding company of OMD, said the du pitch was one of the biggest of last year.

"We're thrilled to have added this exciting brand to our portfolio. du's vision of its future and innovative attitude is already proving motivating for our teams, who are embracing the brand and all it will mean to consumers."

"du's values and objectives provide OMD with a clear sense of direction for the brand launch and subsequent campaigns. This is a momentous challenge we know du is well equipped to tackle," added Ravi Rao, general manager of OMD Dubai.

"Their refreshing approach to their industry and this market makes du a fascinating brand to work with, challenging us to deliver on many aspects of marketing and media communications."

OMD will be responsible for media buying, brand placement and consumer research for du.

The appointment is effective immediately.
