Set in landscaped surroundings, the DLC Labour Village blocks will be complete with restaurants, community facilities, mosques, shops and service centres and a host of recreational and sports facilities.

"DLC's Labour Village will raise the benchmark in labour accommodation and with the community being managed and maintained directly by Dubai Logistics City, we can assure standards can be adhered to throughout," explained Michael Proffitt, CEO, DLC.

The Labour Village will house a number of three and four-storey blocks designed to accommodate varying levels of the workforce, and will comprise of a built up area of 350,000 sqm.

"These facilities will be available for lease by tenants on an apartment, floor or building basis," explained Proffitt. "The Labour Village will have direct access to warehouses, terminal buildings and offices within the DLC customs bonded area and also to public roads and infrastructure outside of DLC."

DLC is a key component of the world's first integrated logistics and multi-modal transport platform being built in a single-bonded customs and free zone environment which will also encompass Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone and the new Jebel Ali International Airport (JXB).

DLC and JXB form the first phase of Dubai World Central which will eventually span almost 140 square kilometres. DLC, which will be operational at the end of next year, is designed to be the preferred location for businesses which require, or offer, logistics and multi-modal transport services to the GCC, wider Middle East, Indian Sub-continent, Africa and the CIS - a market of more than two billion consumers within three-to-four hours flying time.

DLC is designed to handle more than 12 million tons of air cargo annually in up to 16 air cargo terminals all capable of handling the new generation freighters. Work on DLC's first runway is now underway.
