Batelco sponsors UoB 7th Career's Day

For the third consecutive year, Batelco is sponsoring the UoB Career's Day giving university students the chance to find out more about a career in telecommunications - as well as get a clearer picture of the overall job market.

Batelco Chief Executive Peter Kaliaropoulos and other officials from Batelco, the university and the participating companies attended the opening ceremony held on the first day of the event.

The three day event, which started yesterday 2nd April and continues until the 4th of the same month, was held under the patronage of Dr. Alawi Al Hashemi, Vice President of the UoB & Planning & Social Services.

"This is the third year running that Batelco has been the main sponsor of 'Career's Day' at the University of Bahrain,"

explains Batelco Head Corporate Affairs, Ahmed Al Janahi. "The event is very popular with students - especially those in their final year - and it gives us the chance to meet students who may be interested in a career in telecommunications.

Realizing the fact that facing the job market upon completion of a degree can be an uncertain and difficult time for graduates, Batelco Recruitment people arranged for a lecture at the event in which they briefed students on the skills needed aside from the academic qualifications, most frequent mistakes graduates make when applying for a job, and how could graduates sell themselves to the work market.

Over the last two years, Batelco recruited a number of graduates 'on the spot' during the Career's Day job fair and the company is urging this year's students to visit the Batelco stand - either to drop off their cv's or just to have an informal chat.

"The telecommunications industry is vibrant and exciting - especially now with so much happening in our market," explains Ahmed. "A career with Batelco offers many opportunities for graduates - including our highly-praised graduate training programme."

The event - which is being held at the University of Bahrain's Hall (S-18) Sakhir Campus, will give students the opportunity to learn about a wide spectrum of different industries and fields through more than thirty companies from private and public setors being represented at the event.

Sponsorship of the University of Bahrain's Career's Day forms part of Batelco's commitment to supporting the university and the youth of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Within this framework, Batelco is donating a significant amount of money in support for a wide range of education, health, youth and sports projects throughout the country - all designed to help those who need it most and to improve the lives of the people of Bahrain.

Batelco's support for the university includes provision of hearing aids to a number university employees, Batelco Students Centre, sponsorship of Students TechShow, Students Basketball Championship, as well as sponsorship of the 1st Students Business Symposium & Exhibition due to be held in May 2006.
