Qatar delegation visits GIS Centre at DM

A delegation from the Public Works Authority of Qatar recently visited the Geographic Information System (GIS) Centre at Dubai Municipality as part of the exchange of expertise between government departments in the GCC countries.

The visit also comes as part of the efforts to update with the developments that occur in the region in the field of GIS.

The Qatari Public Works Authority delegation, headed by Nasser Al Kawari, Head of Engineering Information Section, included Abdullah Al Ghanem, Acting Head of Records and Documents Unit, Essa Al Kawari, Acting Head of Survey Unit, Khulood Al Marri and Shaikha Al Kawari, GIS officials. The Qatari officials were in Dubai to participate in the just concluded Map Middle East 2006 conference.

Mohammed Al Zaffin, Director of GIS Centre at Dubai Municipality received the delegation, which also went on a tour of the different sections of the Centre. Later, a meeting was held between the officials of Dubai Municipality and the members of the delegation.

In addition to Mohammed Al Zaffin, Manal Al Shamlan, Head of GIS Development Section and Abdullah Galadari, Head of GIS Data Processing Unit also participated the meeting, where the delegation was briefed on the activities and facilities of the Centre.

Both the sides explored possible areas of cooperation in order to enhance performance and utilize the available resources. The Qatari Public Works Authority delegation expressed their appreciation on the development of the GIS Centre, which uses the most advanced applications in the field of Geographic Information System.
