  • PRESS RELEASE

Transguard Education Academy, part of the Emirates Group, has awarded over 100 professionals in the aviation and security industries the Diploma in Aviation Security Management, in association with Edith Cowan University of Western Australia.

Presenting the diplomas at a ceremony at the Emirates Aviation College in Dubai were HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman & Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, and Professor John Wood, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Edith Cowan University.

Family and friends of the graduates attended the event, along with senior management of Emirates and Edith Cowan University.

Visiting dignitaries included Murray Lampard, Deputy Commissioner, Western Australian Police; Jo Harrison-Ward, Executive Director, Western Australian Police; and General Dai Bachtiar, Special Envoy to the Indonesian President.

In his welcome speech, Maurice Flanagan, Executive Vice Chairman, Emirates Airline & Group, commented: "Although security is everybody's business, it has now become a profession which needs trained professionals to keep travel safe and convenient. The vision of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum to join forces with Edith Cowan University of Western Australia four and a half years ago has resulted in the development of the University Diploma in Aviation Security.

"I would like to congratulate the Graduates on the successful completion of their diploma programme. It is tough to study for this diploma, carrying on your day time (and sometimes night job) and also keeping the family happy."

Of the 101 graduates, 79 were employees of the Emirates Group, with the remaining 22 working in security-related businesses.

In congratulating the graduates, Professor John Wood said: "The Diploma in Aviation Security Management is a world-class and rigorous programme, second to none. It is to your credit that you have risen to the formidable challenge of juggling studies, work and family."

The course in Aviation Security Management involves home study and monthly tutorials held at the Emirates Aviation College, with examinations assessed and graded by Edith Cowan University.
