Imation reveals world's smallest hard drive

Ideal for remote workers who need an ultra portable and reliable way to share, store and transport important files, the Imation Micro Hard Drive features a unique, integrated locking USB cable that can be used to clip the sleek storage device to a belt loop or briefcase.

The 4GB Imation Micro Hard Drive will make sharing and transferring files easy, thanks to its high speed interface as well as its ability to transfer files across PC, Mac and Linux platforms. Weighing in at just over one ounce, the Micro Hard Drive's shock-resistant metal case and rugged design is small and portable enough for mobile professionals to take virtually anywhere. Inside the device is the 2005 Guinness Book of World Records' smallest hard disk drive (HDD), a Toshiba invention measuring less than one inch in diameter, powerful enough to store high-capacity presentations, graphics, photos, music or e-mails.

Toshiba's 0.85-inch HDD is the first drive to provide multi-gigabyte storage capacity in a sub-one-inch form factor, enabling unprecedented capacity for next-generation mobile devices, including mobile phones, digital audio players, PDAs, digital still cameras, camcorders and external storage devices.

In addition, Imation will offer users the option to protect valuable files stored on the Micro Hard Drive. Imation Security Manager file synchronisation and encryption software for Windows and Mac, backs up multiple file versions behind the scenes and automatically synchronises the copies, allowing easy access to previous versions and preventing unauthorised access by tightly locking all files with 128-bit encryption. The Micro Hard Drive costs 169.99 EUROS.
