Over 200 scholarships on offer for UAE national and expatriate students at GETEX Dubai 2006

Being offered by 25 odd educational institutions showcasing their academic programmes at the 18th edition of the Middle East's leading education fair, GETEX (Gulf Education and Training Exhibition) Dubai 2006, to be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from April 12 to 14.

Anselm Godinho, Managing Director of event organisers, International Conferences and Exhibitions said: "With Arab governments making considerable investments in developing the regional human resource pool, societies across the Middle East have attracted growing interest from local and international education and training institutions desirous of recruiting high calibre students to their courses. The growing stature and popularity of GETEX makes it the best forum for organisations to promote their scholarship programmes among the growing body of students from the GCC, the Indian subcontinent and neighbouring countries."

Total, the world's fourth-largest oil and gas company, will provide 10 full scholarships enabling selected UAE students to complete their graduate studies in France during 2006-2007. The multinational energy giant has been implementing its scholarship programme in the UAE since 2004 in partnership with Zayed University, Abu Dhabi Men's College, American University in Dubai, American University of Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain.

United Kingdom's University of Nottingham has announced part scholarships paying 20 per cent of tuition fees for UAE students who enroll for its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Another ten partial scholarships are being offered specifically for Indian undergraduate students, covering 50 per cent of tuition fee costs. Middlesex University, London too will promote its 100 merit-based partial scholarships involving amounts of UK£ 1000 or UK£ 2000 each.

The British Safety Council of UK will grant two full scholarships to all UAE residents who attend GETEX Dubai 2006 and collect an entry code from its stand at the fair. The offer is for one seat on each of its two internationally accredited full-time courses--International Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (IDipOSH) and International Diploma in Environmental Management (IDipEM).

Grambling State University of Louisiana from the US has announced partial scholarships of US$ 21,000 each that will be given to 30 candidates selected during the fair. Switzerland's Business School Chardonne has similarly announced part scholarships of CHF 7,700 to all students it recruits during GETEX Dubai 2006.

Among the Indian contingent of exhibitors, the Chennai-based Academy of Maritime Education and Training will draw candidates for the 250 full scholarships it provides for its four-year BE Marine Technology Programme. These are fully sponsored by the A P Moller-Maersk Group and come with a guarantee of employment on their ships. People's Education Society of Bangalore will promote the 25 scholarships it grants for its Bachelors and Masters programmes jointly with the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA while Lingaya's Institute of Management and Technology of Faridabad, will showcase its 90 scholarships for PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) students.

Working towards its objective of building a reservoir of professionally qualified national manpower, the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research will generate awareness about the host of merit-based scholarships it grants every year to UAE nationals pursuing higher studies in Arab and foreign countries in certain disciplines while the American University in Dubai will publicise the 70 full and 50 part scholarships it grants in four categories—the H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Scholarships, the Nokia Select Scholarships, the DAMAC Achievers Scholarship Programme and the William Jefferson Clinton Scholarships.

Organised under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, GETEX Dubai 2006 will host hundreds of regional and international exhibitors through its three dedicated segments on student recruitment; technology and equipment for learning delivery; and corporate training and human resource development.
