Within the Middle East, the UAE is the leader in consumer electronics, increase in retail sales between January and December 2005 were approx 20.74% by value. Reasons behind this dramatic increase are due to higher disposable incomes, the immense increase in home ownership, growth in population and the phenomenal hotel and restaurant developments. This generates consumer demand, which in itself creates an increase in manufacturing, innovative products, competition among vendors and a decrease in retail price. These changes are visible at the largest home technology exhibition within the region, Hometech Middle East 2006. Held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre between the 14th - 16th May 2006, it has increased in size by 50% since last years show and to date 85% more exhibition space has been sold compared to the same time last year.
So far 140 exhibitors have signed up to the fair, with 16 countries being represented. Countries being represented for the first time at Hometech Middle East are New Zealand,
UK, Portugal and Singapore. From within the UAE there are 18 companies already signed up, which include major players in the consumer electronics industry such as e-Home, Better Life Appliances and General Electric. Country pavilions will be present from China, Egypt, UK and Taiwan, reflecting the fact that this show has become a truly international event. Exhibiting within the Country pavilions are some of the most renowned international manufactures and distributors. From Egypt Olympic who exhibited at last years show, will be bringing the latest in washing machines, vacuums, and microwaves. From the UK Dyson who is exhibiting at Hometech for the first time will be showcasing their latest innovative vacuum cleaner. Melissa O'Gorman Exhibition Manager said, "we are thrilled to have the continued support of such well established companies, it just goes to show that Hometech delivers to the visitors needs".
Hometech runs parallel with 4 other Messe Frankfurt trade shows Light Middle East, ISH Kitchen and Bathroom, Hardware & Tools and Gardens, Landscaping & Outdoor Living.
