Global Shipping & Logistics appoints Mike Lee as General Manager

Al Shirawi's Global Shipping & Logistics has taken a major step towards its mission statement with the appointment of Mike Lee as the company's new General Manager.

Global Shipping & Logistics is the company behind the 130 million Dirham warehousing and distribution centre at Investment Park, and Mike's appointment is seen as crucial in achieving its ultimate aim of offering exceptional service in a value for money environment.

"Mike's previous responsibilities have given him extensive experience as both a user and provider of supply chain services and he has a demonstrated track record of team leadership,"

said Khalid Al Shirawi, Executive Director of Global Shipping & Logistics.

"Our objective is to offer exceptional service in a value for money environment, people competency is crucial to this, and we are assembling the team to deliver this goal," he added.

Mike, aged 40, will be responsible for the strategic direction and performance of the logistics services business. Having spent more than 18 years in the logistics industry, both in the Middle East and Europe, Mike's experience is a major asset for the Group.

This experience includes working in Europe's automotive sector, as well managing the acquisition of new companies in the UAE and winning the Dubai Quality Award in 2004.

Mike has been elected President of the Supply Chain Logistics Group for 2006, under the DCCI umbrella and is a founding member of the Dubai Round Table. His qualifications include an MBA in Marketing, and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree from Leicester University in the UK.

Global Shipping & Logistics is a leading logistics provider within the UAE offering a controlled warehouse infrastructure in temperatures down to -25 degrees celcius.

Part of the Al Shirawi Group - Oasis Investment company (OIC), Global Shipping & Logistics was one of the first companies to invest in the new Dubai Investment Park and is also planning a further investment in Dubai Logistics City.

Khalid Al Shirawi said: "Our new facility located close to Jebel Ali Airport has already attracted interest from a number of local and multi national companies, particularly those with diversified business interests, ranging from frozen foods to automotive and construction who are looking for a multi-offering from one location."
