DM conducts workshop for updating annual strategic plan

The workshop was attended by the top management of the Municipality including the assistants to the Director General, directors of departments, assistant directors and heads of other administrative units. Dr Ahmed Al Handawi, Municipality's Corporate Performance Development consultant gave lectures at the workshop.

"The workshop was aimed at reviewing the major components of the strategic plans of the municipality (2004-2009), their advantages and opportunities for improving them," said Maryam Al Hammadi, Acting Director of Administrative Development and Quality Department.

She said the workshop also reviewed the main features of the Corporate Performance Enhancement programme for the next phase.

"We discussed the time frame and methodology to implement the program and ascertained the opinions of the top management of the Municipality about it and tried to know the level of their adherence with the programme," Al Hammadi added.

She said the workshop also tried to get their opinions about the major strong and weak points of SWOT analysis.

Dr. Handawi presented the time plan for the Corporate Performance Enhancement programme, models of strategic plan and its standards, in addition to the summary of the components of the current strategic plan of the Municipality, its advantages and opportunities for development.

"During the workshop models of plans applied in some of the regional and international municipal establishments were presented in order to make some comparison and benefit from their best practices," said Dr. Khalid Al Qesaimi, Head of Corporate Planning Section in the Administrative Development and Quality Department.

He said the Section has shown keen interest in analyzing and evaluating field studies, the results of which could be employed as the main approaches in the updating process.

The workshop also covered the internal strengths and weaknesses and the external opportunities and threats.

Dr. Al Qesimi said that the results of the evaluation will be used in renewing the strategic plan of the Municipality.
