- United Arab Emirates: Monday, April 17 - 2006 at 11:05
- PRESS RELEASE
Amongst the recent series of events which ALHOSN University is holding, a public lecture on Earthquakes in the Gulf Region will be presented at the University.
Professor Barazangi will talk about the potential of generating small to moderate size earthquakes in the northeast area of the UAE, which is an integral part of the modestly active Oman mountain system.
"Major northeast cities like Dubai and Sharjah are only about 100 km from the strongly active Zagros continental collision zone located farther to the north of Iran," Professor Barazangi stated.
"Research on this specific topic is important as it really concerns the region where we are living," said Professor Ziad Saghir, Acting President & Vice President for Academic Affairs, ALHOSN University.
Professor Barazangi has numerous publications and research papers on earthquakes and geological effects on different regions, covering parts of the Middle East, Persia and the Arabian Peninsula.
The public lecture will be held in ALHOSN University's Men's Campus, on Wednesday April 19, 2006.
