- PRESS RELEASE
Twelve International Baccalaureate students studying visual art at the Dubai American Academy- a GEMS School, are showcasing their art work produced over two years through an art exhibition held at Eye Art Gallery from April 18 - April 19 2006.
Judith Hanley, Head of the Fine Arts Department and International Baccalaureate Visual Art teacher at Dubai American Academy (DAA), said: "Dubai American Academy is proud of the students' art work and their efforts for organizing this exhibition. DAA prepares its students to meet the challenges of the future by providing such opportunities."
The inaugural exhibition explores the visual interpretation of twelve individual themes through painting, sculpture, installation, mixed media, illustration and drawing. The art work is a result of the dynamic collaboration in which the voice of youth is expressed innovatively through art.
"At Dubai American Academy, the IB Visual Art program explores not only the creation process, but also its application to the real world. Working directly with visiting artists in residence has provided students with a first hand experience of the inspiration, ideas and media application of practicing artists," added Hanley
Each student was expected to produce a thought provoking, imaginative body of work consisting of 20-30 high quality pieces.
"This exhibition is a celebration of two years of hard work and efforts put in by the students. The event acted as an opportunity for the pupils to understand the dynamics of organizing and showcasing their art work professionally," concluded Hanley.
