Bahrain debates press law

Bahraini MPs threatened to walk out of parliament yesterday during a heated debate about the freedom of the press, reported the Gulf Daily News. The parliament services committee is pushing for strict six month jail sentences for journalists who publish any articles that contravene their suggested amendments to the press law. Some MPs feel that the draft bill is unconstitutional and restricts freedom of expression.
