Newly appointed TRA Board of Directors holds its first meeting

The Board of Directors of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), chaired by Dr. Mohammed J.K. Alghatam, held their first meeting on Wednesday 19 April 2006 after the recent appointment of new board members.

During the meeting the TRA Board of Directors discussed the progress of the TRA as well as the current and upcoming projects. The Board also approved the TRA's financial statements for the year 2005.

Following the meeting, the chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Mohammed J.K. Alghatam, said:

"It is my pleasure to welcome the new members of the Board to the TRA and we look forward to working together and fulfilling our responsibilities and duties. We have been monitoring the progress of the TRA, and note the achievements made in this relatively short period of time. The Board and staff at the TRA are well aware of the challenges still ahead of us but we are all determined to continue working hard and to deal with the problems and obstacles effectively and decisively but as always in a fair and transparent manner for the benefit of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its citizens. The Board will continue to support the TRA in all its endeavours for the long-term benefit of the industry and consumers."


The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammed J.K. Alghatam (Chairman of the Board), Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa ( Board member) , Mr. Jameel Ghazwan (Board member), Mr. Saqr Shaheen (Board member) Mr. A. Andreas Avgousti (General Director) and Ms. Nadia Hussain (Secretary of the Board of Directors).

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) was established by Legislative Decree No. 48 of 2002 promulgating the Telecommunications Law. The TRA is an independent body and its duties and powers include protecting the interests of subscribers and users, and promoting effective and fair competition among established and new licensed operators.
