With the open road ahead guests can explore Scotland's beauty at leisure before staying overnight at the elegant Greywalls Country House Hotel, situated close to the Firth of Forth at Gullane.
Greywalls is a delightful country hotel located in a scenic and undiscovered region of Scotland and is the perfect haven for an idyllic escape. It offers the most gracious of home comforts in lovely surroundings in this magical part of Scotland. The 'Classic Scotland' package includes one night at this rural retreat, dinner, bed and breakfast. After breakfast guests have the car for the second day to further explore the surrounding area before making their way into the heart of Edinburgh for the four-night 'Classic' journey onboard The Royal Scotsman.
For a quintessentially Scottish experience The Royal Scotsman's four-night 'Classic' itinerary provides spectacular scenery, cultural inspiration and moments of tranquillity. The train takes in Scotland's dramatic Eastern coastline rolling through Fife, skirting Dundee and Elgin before heading west through the Highlands to the picture book village of Plockton and onto Kyle of Lochalsh, where the beautiful Isle of Skye shimmers in the distance.
Off train excursions
The journey includes off train excursions which include the chance to take a boat trip to spot wild seals, wander through Highland Estates, spend the morning fishing and enjoy a traditional ceilidh.
Accommodating just 36 guests the atmosphere on board The Royal Scotsman is reminiscent of a private country house party. The changing landscapes can be admired from the lounge or open veranda of the train's Observation Car, traditional Scottish fare enjoyed in one of the two dining cars or guests can simply unwind in their en-suite State Cabin, beautifully fitted out in rich woods and inlaid marquetry.
