DTCM participation at Career fair gets enthusiastic response from UAE nationals

The Director General of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Mr. Khalid A Bin Sulayem met young UAE national job aspirants at the ongoing Career Expo 2006 and encouraged them to apply for vacancies at the DTCM and also in the hospitality sector.

The Career Expo 2006 which is being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from April 23-25, 2006 has received an enthusiastic response from young UAE nationals. As many as 2,000 applications have been received by the DTCM, 1,000 and another 1000 by Dubai's top-end hotels.

Mr. Khalid A Bin Sulayem also gave instructions to the Human Resources department at DTCM to give priority to the applications of UAE nationals and ensure that the deserving candidates get an opportunity to begin their career at the DTCM.

The DTCM is the silver sponsor at the Career Fair. The three-day fair is aimed at encouraging local youths to work in the tourism sector and the DTCM is looking out for UAE nationals to fill seven vacancies in its corporate ranks at the fair.

According to DTCM Manager Human Resources, Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, "The department is committed to boost its Emiratisation programme in its endeavour to be fully localized by 2015. Participating in 'Career UAE' is another concrete and serious step in our ongoing endeavor to provide recruitment to more and more UAE nationals in the tourism sector."

Forty two UAE nationals have also joined Dubai's booming hospitality industry after a formal graduation ceremony held on the sidelines of the Careers UAE -2006.

Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem and Mr. Ahmed Al Tayer, Chairman of the newly-launched Emirates Nationals Development Programme (ENDP) presented certificates to the graduates and the participating hotels.

Their induction into the service-oriented sector is the fruit of the job-linked Maharat training programme launched by the DTCM's Emiratisation Task Force for Tourism (ETFT) in association with the National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (TANMIA) to encourage Emirati job-seekers join the fast-expanding hotel industry.

In the first batch of the programme which concluded in December 2005, 33 UAE nationals embarked on new careers with five-star hotels in Dubai after the successfully completing the nine-week training programme.

Dubai hotel and hotel apartments played host to record over six million guests in 2005. The number of hotel guests is projected to increase as more properties are due to open in the coming months.
