This special event included several lectures specialized in industrial safety and environmental health alongside an exhibition displaying the latest SHE equipment. SABIC awards were presented to the affiliates that achieved the highest scores in Industrial Safety & Environment (IS&E). Present at this Day were the Secretary General of the Higher Commission for Industrial Security, presidents and senior management of SABIC's affiliates and a number of representatives of IS&E government officials.

Mr. Hammad Al-Madi, General Manager, SABIC Office in the Eastern Region, delivered the keynote speech. He said:

"This annual ceremony is not limited to the distribution of Safety & Environment awards. It has been extended to include presentations and discussion of specialized technical papers alongside an exhibition that displays the latest equipment and technologies available in the field of IS&E. No doubt, this day in its wider context forms a rich environment for encouraging creative capacities and an important arm for increasing and improving productivity".

Industrial or technological strategies will not succeed unless they are coupled with the application of modern systems of IS&E. This explains SABIC's utmost attention to this vital functionality and its keenness to continue to enrich employee's cultures and skills. SABIC and affiliates' employees have exerted great efforts to achieve the highest-ever levels of performance in IS&E, resulting in record production, marketing and profitability milestones."

Last year, SABIC reported its highest-ever production, marketing and profit figures and at the same time reported record IS&E performance indicators. SABIC affiliates, in the Kingdom, have reported more than 145 million hours without injuries. Accident rates dropped by 17% compared to last year. Injuries decreased by 62%. SABIC affiliates reported lower 0,21 accident rate compared to similar global petrochemical companies. HADEED endeavors to achieve much higher global records."

Our affiliates have been granted more awards and certificates of recognition and appreciation from the world and regional renowned IS&E institutes and centers".

Environment related achievements indicate that 18 affiliates are now ISO-14001 certified. Training courses continue to improve IS&E staff skills in integration with the SABIC Environmental Manual. Extensive reviews and auditing sessions have been conducted to find out the best possible ways to enhance environment performance".

Additionally, SABIC has extended its SHE care to spread environmental awareness through conferences, forums and scientific symposiums within the community development and service program" Al-Madi added.

As SABIC grows and faces global challenges, the Safety and Environment Award becomes more important. SABIC is working hard to become one of the world's largest petrochemical companies and this trend begins with SHE".

Afterwards, safety and environment awards were presented to the winners. The golden award went to HADEED, the silver award was presented to KEMYA and SHARQ won the bronze award. This was followed by honoring the members of the Award Committee and the inauguration of the exhibition where 30 national and global companies participated by displaying the latest safety equipment and state-of-the-art technologies.

Activities of the inaugural day started with an opening speech by Eng. Ibrahim Saad Al-Shuweir, SABIC's Vice President of Corporate Control. It was followed by remarks by the Chairman of the Award Assessment Committee, Eng. Thamir Ibn Saud Al-Sharha, President SADAF.
