Thierry Henry teams up with Emirates for 2006 FIFA World Cup™
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, May 04 - 2006 at 14:40
- PRESS RELEASE
Arsenal and France superstar Thierry Henry has teamed up with Emirates, an Official Partner of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, to give football fans the chance of a unique "one-on-one" at 16 international airports.
Situated at 16 international airports in ten different countries, the Emirates 'cubes' will broadcast live matches from the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ as well as highlights packages of earlier games and information regarding future match schedules, team standings and the latest FIFA news.
But the life-size cut outs of the dazzling Henry - recently voted the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year for a record third time - are also sure to have fans queuing for the once-in-a-lifetime picture with one of the legends of the modern game.
"It's a great idea having viewing stations like this at the airport," said the number one French striker, who took time out from chasing Champions League success with Arsenal to don his 'Fly Emirates' t-shirt and pose for an exclusive photo-shoot arranged at the Gunners' training ground specifically for the airport activation.
"Everyone wants to see the action when the World Cup comes along so it's great that Emirates is giving people who can't be near a TV or radio a chance to see every goal. Hopefully they'll see a few of mine."
Maurice Flanagan, Executive Vice Chairman, Emirates Airline and Group, said: "We are delighted that Thierry agreed to be featured on our special World Cup stands as he is a global superstar instantly recognised by football supporters all over the world. His image will bring a real flavour of the stars competing in Germany and is certain to prove popular with supporters of all ages."
In addition to the Henry cut-outs and a huge plasma screen broadcasting live coverage of every match, the Emirates "cubes" will also feature interactive screens, smaller screens showing classic matches from the past, a ticker display and an e-mail booth where fans can photograph themselves with a range of different backgrounds relating to Dubai, Emirates and the FIFA World Cup™.
Airports at New York, Zurich, London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Nagoya, Kansai, Shanghai, Narita, Brisbane and Hamburg will launch their Emirates Experience booths this month, while Hong Kong, Melbourne, Sydney, Milan, Rome and Dubai will kick off their campaigns in June.
