Attractive heritage display at Dubai stand fascinates visitors

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) as part of its continued endeavour to promote Dubai's ancient art, heritage and culture has set up a dedicated area of 35 sq. metres for a showcase of heritage activities at the Dubai stand during the ongoing Arabian Travel Market 2006.

A live demonstration of the ancient art of calligraphy along with rope-making and perfume-making has fascinated the international visitors to the stand. The Dubai stand features an attractive display of photographs and traditional exhibits portraying Dubai of yesteryears

Measuring 801 square meters, the Dubai stand is the biggest that the DTCM has ever set up with an all-time record of 124 co-participants from the private and the public sector.

This year, Dubai's stand is 28.5 per cent larger than in 2005. The co-participants from the public sector are Dubai Convention Bureau, Dubai Police, Dubai Shopping Festival, Dubai Summer Surprises, Dubai World Trade Centre and the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department.

The four-day premier event of tourism and travel industry of the Middle East is featuring 106 new exhibitors this year bringing in 4,814 sq. metres of additional space to the exhibition. The total number of participating countries stands at 59.

Outside the venue of the ATM at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Arabic dancers in their traditional costume are welcoming guests to be a part of Middle East's largest travel and trade show. While calligrapher Ms. Narjes Noureldin is offering a valuable lesson in calligraphy to all the visitors to the Dubai stand.

Mr. Khalifa Ali Buamaim, DTCM Manager, Overseas Promotions said : "The DTCM has always been at the forefront of reviving and restoring Dubai's art, culture and heritage. The ATM, being the largest Middle East Travel and Tourism Fair has provided us with another opportunity to showcase Dubai's ancient art, culture and heritage."

Ms. Ayesha Mubarak Abdulla Obeid, Manager, Dubai Museum said : "The pictures displayed inside the Dubai stand, provide panoramic views of the Dubai Creek, ancient pottery, archaeological artifacts and prominent UAE nationals with their falcons, offering valuable insights into Dubai's history."

The pictures are a vivid commentary on lifestyle in the Gulf before the oil boom in the 1960's and throws up interesting features of Arab women selling fish at the market, Arab men and their passion for horse-racing and falconry.

Another attractive feature of the Dubai stand at the ATM 2006 is the arrangement made by the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department to provide e-Gate cards to all visitors absolutely free of cost.
