In the morning pairs matches, Team Europe edged out Team USA/International by 13 points to 12. It was a different story in the afternoon singles matches as Team USA/International took most of the available points for a winning score of 50.5 to 24.5.
Louis Scotto, Chairman of Diners Club UAE, said:
"Diners Club takes its charitable responsibilities very seriously. This tournament was keenly contested. The real winner however was the event's designated charity. The Welfare Association will receive a donation of AED 195,000 to support its educational programmes for children in Palestine. This was an important gesture by the corporate community, which continued its support for humanitarian projects."
Following the tournament an awards ceremony was conducted during which there was a "Silent Auction" that raised over AED 44,000 for The Welfare Association's charitable activities in Palestine. Players and guests had the opportunity to bid for more than 60 items generously donated by businesses based in the UAE.
Further funds were also made available to the Welfare Association through the sponsorship contributions of participating companies. The tournament was sponsored by 17 corporations, including Arabtec and Liberty Cadillac as gold sponsors. "The generosity of all those involved in the event has been tremendous. We are all delighted with the sum of money raised this year, which will go a long way in bringing happiness and content to so many of our deprived children in Palestine. A great part of these funds will also be available in supporting the development of IT skills amongst students in Palestine. I would like to thank Diners Club for their ongoing support and look forward to its continued support," said Dr. Adnan Soghaier, Senior Advisor for the Welfare Association.
