The 3G festival will kick off in Cairo, Egypt, from May 8-17, 2006, at the J W Marriott hotel where Huawei will exhibit innovative and leading-edge UMTS solutions, rich 3G services like video call, video monitor, mobile TV, MMS, WAP and advanced features like HSDPA (High Speed Download Packet Access) which will accelerate network peak data rates from existing 2Mbps to about 14.4Mbps.

"Huawei is committed to our customers' needs and focused on delivering the best applications and solutions to our customers in the region. As the telecom industry moves into providing more experiential services to its consumers, Huawei will continue to cooperate with our partners to provide an innovative platform for the industry, and establish a win-win value chain. Road shows like these will help us understand our customers' needs better and respond promptly to them,"

said Thomas Zhu, General Manager, Huawei Technologies, Egypt.

In the 3G era where focus is on delivering the experience for end users, Huawei is also organising product demonstrations and technical workshops as part of the road shows, including holding UMTS radio network workshops.

Huawei's equipment and solutions have been deployed in over 100 countries globally, serving more than 100 million subscribers. The transformation of carriers from being 'network and service-centered' to 'customer-centered' is driving the rapid deployment of 3G and next generation network (NGN) technologies globally. As a result of the increasing integration of applications, billing and service engines, Huawei has blended these three key factors (product, price and service) into its Application and Software products.

The company has over 9.5 million subscribers in the GSM/CDMA segment and over 4800 optical network sets in operation in the region. In the Middle East and North Africa region, Huawei has established over 20 subsidiaries, covering 28 countries, and its solutions are deployed in over 25 countries, including the UAE, Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. The first commercial 3G application in the region was deployed by Huawei for Etisalat in the UAE. The company continues its market leadership in intelligent networks and was ranked as one of the top two industry players in the short message traffic market globally in 2005.

"Our mobile data services, 3G service solutions, Next Generation Network (NGN) service platform and integrated solutions stood out from fierce market competition and made successive market breakthroughs with leading telecom carriers around the world last year. Our rich experience in delivering world class solutions has made Huawei a leader in the 3G value added service market. Huawei's UMTS (3G) technology is commercially deployed in Etisalat UAE, Wataniya Maldives ; and currently eight UMTS network trials are underway in the MENA region," added Zhu.
