Mr. Mehrinfar's address focused on the importance of branding destinations and educating the audience on what makes a successful brand. 'It's not about trying to become a brand. Successful 'Destination Branding' is when a country is able to maximize the potential of the destination and transfer it to the minds of the people," Mr. Mehrinfar said during the address.
Citing examples of New York and Britain as destination success stories, Mr. Mehrinfar attributed their success to the creation of an identifiable 'destination culture'. Speaking of brands closer to home, Vahid believed Dubai had created a strong brand for itself despite being a late starter and attributed this success to the futuristic thinking of Sheikh Mohammed.
Other aspects discussed on destination branding by Mr. Mehrinfar included the significance of the graphic representation of a country through its branding; symbols, pictures and colors of that country's brand must be representative of the culture, heritage and history of that specific country.
Mr. Mehrinfar will be speaking next at Retail City, Dubai on "Brand Futurity in Retailing" over June 4th- 7th, Dubai International Exhibition Centre.
