Participating in a round table on "Transforming, diversifying and developing: the role of new technologies", Mr. Al Daboos revealed how the development of an integrated POS system had enabled Emirates Post to expand the portfolio of services at postal counters, and how the application of IT at every level had transformed its work practices.

The conference was opened by Mr. Edouard Dayan, Director General of UPU. Besides Mr. Al Daboos, others who took part in the session were Mr. Massimo Sarmi, CEO, Poste Italiane, Mr. Igor Syrtsov, CEO, Russian Post, Mr. Kyung-Won Jung, Director General, Korea Post and Mr. Herve Schricke, CEO, X Ange Capital Venture.

The conference brought together representatives of government, CEOs of postal operators, investment banks, financial journalists, customer organizations, other international organizations and all stakeholders to discuss at the highest level issues that will shape the postal industry of the future.

"Like sectors such as telecommunication and air transport, the postal sector is experiencing a dramatic transformation," said Mr. Al Daboos.

"The main catalyst in this transformation is IT. This forum helped bring under one platform global postal operators and created a better understanding of the ground reality in each country and how IT could help in making posts competitive and profitable. It was exciting to share with global postal players the evolving Emirates Post story."

Among the other topics covered in the conference were IPO & Private Equity, postal financial services and the future of posts as a national enterprise.
