EIDA delegation visits Oman to view progress of ID Card implementation

A delegation from the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) left today for an official visit to Oman.
The delegation was headed by H.E. Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director General of EIDA, who was accompanied by Mohammad Al Mazarouie, manager of the Mushrif Registration Center, Nassir Al Shamsi, Manager of Dubai Registration Center and Sultan Al Dhaheri, Manager of the Al Ain Registration Center.
The delegation was received by H.E. Major Sulaiman Al Harithi, Director of the General Department for Civil Affairs. This morning the delegation visited the General Department for Civil Affairs of the Omani Police, the department in charge of implementing the ID card in the Sultanate of Oman.
The delegation also visited H.E. General Malik Bin Sulaiman Al Moammari, the General Inspector of Police and Customs. Dr. Dhaheri extended greetings to General Moammari on behalf of H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of the Interior and Vice Chairman of EIDA. The visit is part of a number of similar visits to GCC countries in order to share experiences in the introduction of ID Cards and enhance the coordination of the cross border identification aspect of these cards.
The UAE delegation was briefed on the advanced infrastructure for the Omani civil register and ID Card which the Police and Customs Department has responsibility for implementing. The delegation also visited a registration center where they were introduced to the registration procedures.
Oman implemented a smart ID Card Program in 2004. Since that date, 1,100,000 cards have been issued to both citizens and residents. 12 registration centers were established to facilitate the registration procedures.
On behalf of H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed al Nahyan, Dr. Dhaheri invited H.E. General Al Moammari and the team working on the Omani ID project to visit the UAE, in order to tour EIDA facilities and receive a comprehensive brief about the National ID Card and Population Register project in the UAE.
