Mr. Elias Bou Saab, Executive Vice President and Director of Admissions at AUD described the move as a "milestone in AUD's history and a consummate step in implementing the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for a greater involvement by Harvard in influencing the academic development of the Emirate of Dubai, thus extending Harvard's role beyond the already highly successful venture in Dubai Healthcare City. We are certain that such a relationship will positively impact our community."
The initial phase of the relationship will be marked by a visit to AUD in Fall, 2006 by various Harvard faculty and administrators to conduct a needs assessment and situation analysis, to be followed by the stipulation of a comprehensive work plan. This strategic planning exercise is likely to impinge initially on the University's administrative infrastructure and the academic disciplines of Business Administration, Information Technology and English language.
Dr. Lance de Masi, AUD President, heralds the day when Harvard's services will add value to various spheres of the University's operations, including curriculum and new program design and faculty selection and development. Upon announcing the Agreement, de Masi said,
"We are confident that this relationship will enhance AUD's adherence to best practices in American higher education; and hence, strengthen the accomplishment of our objective to be the Gulf's premier University."
Harvard Medical International in Dubai has acted as a catalyst in this venture and will hold the Agreement. Dr. Robert Thurer, HMI Chief Academic Officer, who represents Harvard Medical International in Dubai, commented: "This is an exciting opportunity for Harvard to positively impact the educational community in Dubai."
