UAE co-op sets up direct imports

The Union Co-operative Society has decided to import about 400 goods directly from exporters in a bid to cut prices and break the monopoly of local agents, reported Gulf News. About 50 different commodities including canned foods, juices and fruits will be imported this month. Large foreign hypermarkets have been accused of under pricing basic commodities in a bid to push local chains out of the market.
