- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, May 23 - 2006 at 11:34
- PRESS RELEASE
Al Yousuf Motors, the leading UAE automotive retailer, today unveiled its latest addition - the Daihatsu Terios, a compact sport utility vehicle that combines full-time four wheel drive off-road performance capability with the pleasure and ease-of-handling which drivers associate with five-speed manual cars designed exclusively for city driving.
The interior offers mid-sized hatchback passenger space with a split fold and tumble rear seat that is long enough to accommodate a mountain bike. With the rear seat in use, the vehicle has a boot capacity of 380 litres, enough to take four 45-inch golf bags, four vertically stacked mid-sized suitcases or a typical baby buggy. Most models also have load-floor securing hooks.
The compact engine is mounted in-line, followed by the gearbox. With regard to safety, the new Terios has, for both driver and passenger, with standard four channel anti lock brakes (ABS) featuring electronic brake force distribution (EBD) that maximizes stopping power and minimizes skidding. As for pedestrians, the front bumper and bonnet are designed to minimize injury to the head and thigh with a shock absorbing structure built into the bonnet.
"For years, drivers in the UAE have been conflicted over what kind of vehicle to buy - sedan or SUV. Now, they can have both in a high-performance automobile that is as powerful as it is stylish," said Suheil ZainAldeen, COO, Al Yousuf Motors.
"From sand dunes to rush hour traffic, the Daihatsu Terios is a joy to drive, and we expect that Al Yousuf Motors will sell close to 1200 units over the next 12 months," he added.
"The Terios is just the perfect ride for the country's growing base of passenger traffic," said Arif Rasheed, director of Al Yousuf Motors. "It's got all the functionality one associates with a compact 4x4, but it also has incredibly good looks and delivers the driving excitement that the UAE's buyers demand from any automobile."
Every new Terios model has, as standard equipment, air conditioning, power steering, full time four wheel drive with centre diff-lock, driver, passenger and side airbags, three rear-seat three-point seat seatbelts, radio/CD player, four electronic windows and reverse parking sensors.
Powered by a newly-developed 1.5-litre engine, the 4-cylinder, 16-valve Terios is capable of powerful SUV performance. The full-time four-wheel drive with a centre differential lock is a reliable feature when driving in tricky situations, such as at high speed, over rough terrain, and on slippery roads.
The Daihatsu Terios will be available for immediate purchase in Al Yousuf showrooms across the UAE from 1 June of this year.
