"Aircraft maintenance engineers play a very crucial role in the aviation industry as they are responsible for the proper maintenance, repair and the certification for release to service for flight of an aircraft, its engines and all installed equipment," said Gulf Air Vice President Technical Abdulkhaliq Mohammed Saeed addressing the recruits on the first day of the training.
"The Gulf nationals programme at Gulf Air provides excellent career opportunities and prospects for young school leavers and university graduates to begin a career as a licensed aircraft engineer."
The training programme consists of a 12-month initial training at Gulf Air training centre in Bahrain, followed by a 24-month, classroom theoretical training, workshop practice and on-the-job training overseas. They would then be required to complete 24-month hands-on maintenance experience at Gulf Air facility.
"Candidates undergo a very intensive theoretical and practical training that includes human factors, ramp awareness, electronic and electrical fundamentals, digital techniques, materials and hardware training and, propeller and gas turbine engines," says Gulf Air Manager Technical Training and Development, Tim De Alwis.
"At the end of their five year training and successful completion of their CAR-66/Part 66 exams they come out with a globally recognised accreditation."
Gulf Air Technical Training Manager Shahir AlKindy, along with his team of technical training instructors, would be running the initial training programme.
