RCSI-MUB hosts first Undergraduate Alumni meeting

- PRESS RELEASE
The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI)-Medical University of Bahrain (MUB) hosted the first ever gathering of Bahraini RCSI Undergraduate Alumni at its campus in the Seef District.
They were given a closer look at the MUB's facilities and its role in promoting Healthcare Education in Bahrain and the region.
"We welcomed this opportunity to bring RCSI Alumni up to date on the projects the MUB is currently working on in Bahrain. We spoke to them about why we are here and how we plan on contributing to the improvement of healthcare provision in the Kingdom and the GCC as a whole," said Dr. Brendan Kavanagh, Chairman Academic Committee, MUB.
"This includes the new RCSI-MUB campus currently under construction beside the upcoming King Hamad General Hospital. The BD10 million campus, which will be operational next year, will be a key component of the new Health Oasis, an International Centre of Excellence for the region being jointly developed by the RCSI and the Government of Bahrain," he added.
In addition to a five-star hotel, leisure and shopping facilities, the Health Oasis will include a cluster of private and public healthcare facilities, including cardiology and cardiac surgery treatments, cancer treatments, mental health treatments, dependency treatments, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, infertility treatments, imaging systems and others.
The University will also be adding new schools in the fields of nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and dentistry to the campus at a later stage.
"The Alumni meeting was an excellent opportunity to renew old friendships and form new ones. It is amazing how much the RCSI had contributed to Bahrain's medical expertise even without having a presence here," said the BDF Hospital's Dr. Al Sindi.
"We were also given a fascinating insight into what the MUB is involved in locally and were pleased to learn that the students here are being offered the same high standard of education that we received at the School of Medicine at the RCSI. We are happy to contribute to the development of the medical sector in Bahrain and to become more involved in Healthcare Education," he concluded.
Dr Al Sindi said that he hopes that his fellow alumni will continue to be involved in the MUB's future activities.
