Saudi Telecom Company (STC), launches 3 G in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Telecom the largest operator in the Kingdom and with over 11 million customers announces today in Riyadh (24th May) it has launched a new era in 3G communications.

STC started testing the service back in 2005 with the first 3G video call made by the Governor of Jeddah and, after continuous trials, customers and the Saudi nation will be able to follow in his foot steps.

STC will roll out the largest 3G network in the Middle East and will activate a full service including: Voice and Video calls, Live TV and HSDPA running up to 1.5Mbp - the fastest internet access available; it already has over 3,000 customers testing and using the service.

500 base stations are fully operational in 20 cities across the Kingdom with a further 460 new base stations going live in the coming weeks, which will further enhance the coverage. In time, STC will deliver 100% coverage in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam. Saudi Telecom customers will be able to obtain and register for the service over the phone, at call centers and online, soon everyone will be able to experience 3G in the Kingdom.

Prior to his appointment he was President of Al-Jawal, the mobile business unit of STC which he headed from October 2001.
