- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, May 25 - 2006 at 10:36
- PRESS RELEASE
Mohammed bin Rashid Programme for Leadership Development will hold its first Innovative Leadership seminar on Saturday 27 May 2006 in partnership with the Dubai School of Government.
Joseph S. Nye, Professor and former Dean, John F. Kennedy School of Government, and Distinguished Service Professor at Harvard University will be the guest speaker at the half-day interactive session.
Adel Rashed Al Shared, director of the Government Leaders' Programme, said: "The Innovative Leadership Seminar (ILS) is a new initiative of the Government Leaders Programme to enable senior government officials to interact with international experts and industry leaders."
Sharing examples from his recent book, Soft Power, Nye will address several areas, including ways to deal with critical global issues that require multilateral cooperation.
"Apart from the dimensions of military and economic power typically associated with strong nations, Soft Power is a third dimension that will achieve results through attraction rather than coercion. It could be cultivated through relations with allies, economic assistance, and cultural exchanges," Nye said.
Dr. Yassar Jarrar, Executive Dean of the Dubai School of Government, said: "Our partnership with the Government Leaders Programme is based on a similar vision and goal aimed at developing a talent pool of skilled leaders for Dubai. The seminar will provide knowledge and experience that they require to take on future leadership roles in the government."
The Innovative Leadership Seminar, along with the mentoring programme, executive education programmes, Dubai Policy Watch, leadership executive programmes, technical knowledge and personal development programmes, are integrated elements of the Government Leaders Programme which aims to develop capable leaders equipped with knowledge, skills and experience.
