Emirates Post issues stamp on 25th anniversary of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)

The Dh. 1 stamp has been issued jointly by GCC postal administrations in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The new stamps are available at all UAE post offices. In addition, souvenir sheets priced at Dhs. 5, First Day Covers of Dhs. 2.00 each and FDC souvenir sheets of Dhs. 6, are available at Deira Main Post Office, Dubai Central Post Office (Karama) and Abu Dhabi Central Post Office.

The first Gulf Cooperation Council summit was held on May 25, 1981, in Abu Dhabi. Since then, the summit has been held every year.

"The Gulf Cooperation Council is the foremost Arab regional bloc that promotes the economic, social and cultural progress of Arab states," commented Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post. "The work that began 25 years ago is being carried on effectively under the guidance of leaders like HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President. We are pleased to celebrate this historic occasion with a new stamp."

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) of Arab Gulf States is a regional political, economic and social organization, representing a cooperative initiative of Arab Gulf states, established to meet challenges peculiar to the region. The organization embraces multiple aspects, such as economy, politics, security, culture, health, information, education and affairs pertaining to legislature, administration, energy, industry, mining, agriculture, water and animal resources.

The member countries of the Council are: the State of the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait.
