"Mid-day break is indispensable, especially in open sites, we have established our corporate Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) principles as part of core values set by our founder and chairman, Haj Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah long before official bodies were formed to oversee policy making and implementation"
said Lootah.
The announcement came during S.S. Lootah Contracting HSE policy review meeting held in Dubai last week. Health and safety policy refinement, unconventional operational methods and behavioral based safety management were among the issues discussed during the meeting. "It is challenging to achieve safety excellence in the construction industry". Lootah noted. "We are communicating and implementing HSE principles at all operational levels, but our values that promote respect, care and appreciation for all workers is the key in achieving our goals" he added.
S.S. Lootah site engineers proposed ideas during the meeting that exceed compliance with HSE codes and standards to improve on standard health and safety practices according to the nature and requirements of each construction site. "We always strive to maintain our leadership in the industry by deploying the best safety practices to enforce safe working behavior, providing water, minerals, fans and onsite nurses is a standard practice today" said Rashid Lootah. "We are committed to ensuring that all our partners and contractors meet the high HSE standards we set to make sure that their workers enjoy the same level of healthcare, training and services". He added.
The discussion concluded that it is becoming increasingly important to have one official body overseeing health and safety policy making and implementation in the construction industry. "Contractors must present a detailed HSE plan specific to each project along with the project drawings, get it approved by all parties, developer, consultant and official government body". Lootah suggested.
