This unique charity drive involves special magazine kiosks placed in popular locations within the country. Visitors and readers can pay and pick up their favourite titles at the kiosks itself. Half of these sales proceeds will be donated to the Qatar National Cancer Society (QNCS).
The first of the Kiosks was inaugurated at the Royal Plaza by OPAC Publisher and Editor-in-Chief and leading Qatari businessman Mr Yousuf J Darwish. Royal Plaza General Manager Gail El Kafrawi was also present. Kiosks will be put up in more outlets in the coming weeks.
The programme is also a community-building initiative, and hopes to involve residents in the causes Qatar advocates.
The Charity
QNCS's main objective is to promote cancer awareness, early detection and treatment. The society was formed in 1997 under the patronage of HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, honorary president of the QNCS and the Chairman is Dr Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani.
QNCS operates with donations it receives, and the latest initiative of Qatar Today will support that.
The first kiosk was set up at the Royal Plaza, given the exclusive, high-profile and affluent clientele it attracts, which will provide a further boost to the charity.
As the country's most popular magazine Qatar Today has initiated several programmes and "Read for a Cause"' is the latest.
