  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, May 29 - 2006 at 14:12
  • PRESS RELEASE

A team of two AUD students won the first place award at the "CBEstudents.com Competition for the Best UAE Based Business Project" award ceremony held at the College of Business Administration and Economics in the UAE University in Al Ain.

Ahmad Jadallah (Information Technology) and Gautam Goenka (Bachelor of Business Administration - Marketing), won the award with their project "Dubai 4D".

This competition was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah Emirate, Honorary President of CBE Students Website.

The competition allows any student or group of students from any UAE based university to participate. In the first phase, interested students submit a one A4 page proposal that will briefly describe the project. Once this proposal is approved, the selected candidates are notified with related comments, if any. At the end of the competition, participants present a complete study that includes a complete market, industry and financial analyses for a prospective business that may be established in the UAE.

However, this competition holds certain uniqueness, in the sense that students acted as real life entrepreneurs, whereby they researched innovative business opportunities, assessed their viability and decided upon which feasible project to embark on.

"AUD's mission has always been to prepare its students academically, professionally and personally. This project is yet another example of the integration between the academic and professional path," said Dr. Mulhim Al-Doori, Associate Professor in Information Technology at AUD and the students' project advisor.

The AUD students' project, "Dubai 4D" is a unique idea that integrates IT, E-Business and Tourism. If implemented, "Dubai 4D" would be the first of its kind and would serve as a benchmark in this integrated industry.

The "Dubai 4D" system will create a virtual model of the city that enables users to appreciate the wonders of Dubai. As such, members will be able to experience Burj Al Arab or take a cruise on the creek or even enter the premises of the American University in Dubai itself. The techniques used to establish "Dubai 4D" as well as the activities and features offered all add up to the innovative nature of this service.

The competition attracted participations from other UAE based universities, where the American University in Sharjah came in second place and the UAE University came in third. In addition, a student from Higher Colleges of Technology - Ras Al Khaimah got a special award for the best Ras Al Khaimah emirate based business project.
