The amount collected from across the Middle East offices of American Express was presented to Nigel Smith, the Chairman of the English charitable organization known as the Royal Society of St. George.

Mr. Smith was on this occasion, however, representing all of the British societies in Bahrain, who teamed together immediately after the disaster to raise money for the children who lost one or both parents on the dhow on the night of 30 March.

Mr. Trevor Stokes, President & CEO of American Express Middle East said: "Bahrain is our home and being a close knit community, it was our duty to join hands for this local cause. The loss from this terrible tragedy is irreplaceable, but we hope our contribution will ease some of the financial burden of the victims' survivors."

Nigel Smith commented: "We thank the American Express family very much for their generous support. Since this tragedy rocked Bahrain, it has impacted several countries across the Middle East region and beyond. The money collected by American Express will be split between all the affected children, irrespective of their nationality."

Since the setting up of the Dhow Fund, over BD 26,000 has been raised.
