Mr. K.W. Kim's visit to the university campus comes as a means of building on past agreements formed between both sides, for in an agreement which was signed last year in collaboration with one of LGE's agents in Jordan the Middle East Complex (MEC), it was agreed that LGE grant full scholarships to distinguished students enrolled at the university. This same agreement also aims to grant LGE's scholarship students the opportunity to benefit from internship programs and training courses that they would take at the firm's headquarters in Korea, along with future job opportunities with LGE as well.
Commenting on his talks with Dr Shawaqfe, Mr. Kim said,
'We at LGE feel that our joint collaboration with UJ is of great value, for I see LGE playing a leading role in raising the level and quality of education offered in Jordanian universities. We sincerely aim to see Jordan becoming a role model for both technological advancement and economic development in the region, and I am sure that the distinguished students going through the LGE scholarship program will help us achieve our goal. I see these students utilizing all the skills they have learned through the internship programs the firm offers and in turn I also see them using their skills to help raise the standards and qualities of the human resources available in the Jordanian job market, and the standard of the Jordanian corporate world in general.'
On another level Mr. Kim discussed with Dr shawaqfe the possibilities of LGE sponsoring a group of patients undergoing Cleft Lip treatment surgery at the Jordan University Hospital. Through his talks with the vice president of UJ, Mr. K.W. Kim voiced LGE's intentions to contribute to this good cause by flying in specialists from Korea to help local health care professionals operate on these patients this coming October.
Commenting on this issue Mr. Kim said 'Our sponsorship of these operations stems directly from our aims to elevate the level of development seen in the healthcare sector in Jordan. Our specialists will be training Jordanian surgeons and providing them with the skills they need to independently undergo this complicated surgical procedure and to dispense with the need for foreign aid in the future.'
Impressed with what he had seen and heard throughout his visit to UJ Mr. Kim said, 'It gives us at LGE great pride to collaborate with one of the leading universities in the Arab world, for UJ enjoys outstanding academic standards, and its graduates enjoy exceptional academic and social skills as well.'
Being amongst the leading providers of technological solutions on a global scale, we on our part will exert all our efforts in providing UJ's students with all the technological facilities they need to both expand their horizons and sharpen their skills. We understand the important role played by students in the development of the kingdom's economy, for they are the building blocks of Jordan's future, and this is why we from our end will work to strengthen ties between our firm and the Jordanian educational sector at large.'
Mr. Kim ended his visit to the University of Jordan by touring the Korean Studies Unit located at the university's Language Centre. The center was inaugurated last year through the sponsorship and support of LGE. Mr. Kim used his visit to the premises to meet with officials there and to learn more about the services that this center offers.
