Parents, teachers and pupils, from more than 40 nations, were invited to share a day of games, exhibitions and food from around the globe.

"International Day is an opportunity to learn and celebrate the many cultures that are present, not only in our school but in the community we live in. We want people to take pride in their own cultures and to learn and enjoy the traditions of others," said Mr Bastable, Director, DIS.

Students kicked off the day with an impressive display of the traditional Maori Haka, followed by a plethora of impressive traditional performances, dances, music, plays and readings from around the world.

"We were delighted to see how everyone really embraced the spirit of the day, with many wearing traditional dress and bringing food from their homelands for all to enjoy," said Bastable.

The day was not just about enjoying all there was on offer. It was also to raise awareness of the school's Community Service Programme, which educates students and parents about the various charity organisations, and how they can contribute to them. The proceeds of the day will be donated by the students to a number of charities that help orphans, refugees and the homeless across the globe.

"The day was a resounding success for all involved, and I would like to thank everyone who participated and helped to organise International Day. I am hoping that people left with a greater degree of understanding about the different cultures we live with in today's society. Next year promises to be even bigger and better," added Bastable.
