Some customers have reported receiving these messages that appear to be from HSBC but are, in fact, sent by impostors.

"We would like to warn our customers that HSBC never sends e-mail nor SMS requesting customers to provide such information. We advise our customers not to respond to such requests," said Lester Wynne Jones, Head of Personal Financial Services, HSBC Bank Middle East Limited.

"We are carrying warning and general information on our website www.uae.hsbc.com and will post stickers on all ATMs advising customers of this fraud. Meanwhile, any customers who have responded to such requests or have any enquiries or doubts are requested to call our 24-hour Phone Banking Service on 800 404442," he stated.
