"This is the first international design competition initiated by Dubai Properties. The aim of the competition is to bring the best practices and innovations from around the world to Dubai, reinforcing the company's mission to provide excellence in real estate solutions."
Dubai Properties had earlier invited leading international architects to present proposals that reflected the unique vision of Business Bay as the region's business capital. Pitches were submitted to an internal review committee by Morphosis Architects, Los Angeles; Zaha Hadid Architects, London; RUR Architecture, New York; and Office of Metropolitan Architects, Rotterdam.
Zaha Hadid's prize-winning entry was selected by an elite jury who hailed her ingenious design as a unique blend of form and function. When executed, Hadid's creation will represent an inimitable interpretation of architectural excellence in Dubai that no other city has dared to dream.
Al Dabal said: "The response to the competition was overwhelming. While all the entries conveyed our vision for Business Bay, it was Zaha Hadid's pitch that captured the essence and global relevance of Business Bay."
Zaha Hadid's design proposal is indicative of the architect's distinctive style with the towers reflecting a dynamic fusion of volume and space. A leading contemporary woman architect, Baghdad born Zaha Hadid is known for her intense and avant-garde designs. Using the waterfront to optimal advantage, her design for the intertwined towers defies convention, and surprises with its fluid composition.
A city within a city, Business Bay is a freehold commercial, residential and business cluster. It aims to provide world-class environment and infrastructure for businesses from around the world to set up their local, regional and international headquarters.
The design of the towers will be unveiled to an international audience in New York next week.
