With 35 new islands up for resort development, the Maldives looks set to grow as the destination of choice for GCC travellers.

The roadshow, supported by Qatar Airways, kicked off with a captive crowd at the Sheraton Creek Dubai, before moving on to Le Royal Meridien, Abu Dhabi. The event will also travel to Riyadh, as part of MTPB's initiative to increase in-bound tourism and build a solid GCC-wide tourism proposition.

"We were delighted with the overwhelming response to the roadshow - it serves to highlight the region's commitment and interest in the Maldives," said Mohamed Adam, Assistant Director, MTPB, who headed the event alongside Najumulla Shareef, Assistant Marketing Officer, MTPB and representatives from Crown Tours and Capital Travel and Tours.

"With exciting expansion plans on the horizon and daily flights available, the roadshow has really helped to highlight the fact that the Maldives is a prime destination for the GCC traveller. Whether you are looking to travel on a short luxury break or splash out on a no expenses spared getaway, the region has a complete range of resorts to offer,"

Mr. Adam explained.

The idyllic island location, with its pristine sandy beaches and tropical palm trees, is the perfect getaway from the frenetic pace of the GCC region. A mere four hour flight away; the Maldives is a convenient choice for a weekend retreat or a longer luxury break.

Nicki Page, Executive Director of Fusion Marketing Management, the Dubai-based company appointed for the management of the roadshow said: "The roadshow was a runaway success, with hundreds of people arriving to learn more about this stunning location. We are excited by the region's response and I would like to thank all those who supported the event. We look forward to following the progress of the new island developments and continuing with the remarkable run of success the Maldives has enjoyed."
